Nā Leo ʻO Hawaiʻi Announces 2017 Holomua Scholarship Winner
Hilo, Hawaiʻi – Nā Leo ‘O Hawai‘i, is proud to announce the winner of the 1st Annual Holomua Scholarship Program. Established this year, the scholarship provides promising young students from diverse backgrounds with the capital they need to earn degrees in a variety of technological, media, and broadcast-related fields.
This year’s inaugural recipient of the 2017 Holomua Scholarship is Anyssa Iwamoto of Hilo, HI. She is an undergraduate student at Arizona State University. A Technological Entrepreneurship and Management major, Anyssa strives for a career in web development and web programming and has already begun storytelling through media and broadcasting by interning with our organization over the past two summers.
“The need has never been greater for transparent community access television that serves the public good,” said Nā Leo ‘O Hawai‘i President & CEO, Stacy K. Higa. “We must develop new concepts, content, and techniques that advance civic enlightenment and engagement, especially through technology, social media, and public broadcasting. The scholarship provides support for this kind of innovation.” He added, “The Holomua Scholarship is our way of investing in the very best emerging talent in the fields of technology, media, and broadcasting. We were very impressed by Anyssa and her work ethic, and look forward to helping her apply her talents in a fast paced, forward-thinking professional environment.”
